How Any Tradesman Can Build a Million Dollar Business in 24 Months Or Less By Ian Marsh

Remember when you first started working for yourself You were full of fire and nothing was too much trouble for you ? A client would ring up in the middle of the night and ask you to come out and you would sleepily say "sure not a problem, I was just sitting around anyway".
Now its 5 years later, your still struggling to pay the mortgage, you need to watch your spending and you really not too far ahead from when you first started.
Well don't worry, its not your fault, you see none of us were taught at TAFE (yes, me included) how to become wealthy and how to structure our business so that it is ready to sell.
We were taught how to get the right fall on a pipe, how to dig trenches and how not to get ourselves killed while in the process of creating beautiful homes for other people.
In the upcoming issues I am going to start revealing some simple, ideas for you to follow so that when you look at yourself in another 5 -8 years you can say "I work because I want to, not because I have to."
STRATEGY ONE
BEGIN WITH THE END ON MIND
When you started out in business did you know what your company was going to look like in three years time?
Ask yourself right now. How much money am I going to make this year?
The sad fact is only 10% of tradesmen can actually answer this question. Why? Not because it's a toughy. Its just that the 10% that have had a bit of guidance know that before you can achieve something, you have to know what it is you want to achieve.
So this is the first task that I want you to do. I would like you to take your girlfriend, wife, mistress, or whoever takes your fancy and go on a future weekend.
I want you to go into to houses for sale with your significant other and act like a serious buyer.
It doesn't matter that you cant pay for it yet, you are telling your brain that this is what I want to live in in two years time. I want you to take photos of the home and put it in your future life book.
Then I want you to go to the bank (actually just jump on the net these days) and see how much you would need to pay monthly for your home.
Lets say for arguments sake its $5,500 a month
Then I want you to go and take some nice cars for a spin. The type of car you always wanted to drive(his and hers) Get the brochures etc. Here is a tip. When I went to choose my car it was a lexus 430 . I was well dressed, the vehicle was very expensive and only had 15,000 on the clock.
The car salesman knew that I was serious and he let me take it over the long weekend.
Now if you dress up really well, and really believe that your going to buy the car then there is no reason you cant borrow the car for a few days.
After you have decided on your vehicle work out the repayments
Lets just say $2500 a month.
Now, what about a boat or fancy holiday
$2000 a month
Living expenses
$6,000 a month
So here is what we have
Future Life Budget
House $5,500
Car $2,500
Holiday $2,000
Living $6,000
TOTAL $16,000 a month
This may or may not sound like a lot of money to you. You have to pick the things that are right for you. But at least we know. This is what I want and this is how much it is going to cost. Now we have a financial goal that we can strive towards and its not airy fairy crap that is running through your head. It is starting to become a reality.
In the next issue we are going to start working on a strategy on how to get these things that until now you have only dreamed about or thought that these nice things are for the lucky few. Let me tell you. You are the lucky few if you decide to take action and become the lucky few.
Until next issue
Remember
Marketing is Everything
